ASTRODICE - Astrology in the palm of your hand - Wessex Astrologer, $13.50
This is a set of three 12-sided dice, one green, one blue & one violet (looks pink on the screen), one with planets (including north & south nodes), one with the 12 signs & one with the 12 houses. Think of a question, roll the dice & read the answer. Will you get that raise? Jupiter in Taurus in the 2nd, it’s a sure bet! What kind of day are you having? Uranus in Scorpio in the third: A strange, surprising one. Use these dice to sharpen your skills in all areas of astrology: Relationships (what’s he up to now?), Horary (where’s my watch?), Forecasting (what will happen when Venus conjuncts my Sun?), Electional (should I get a new job?) & more. Includes a 24 page booklet of instructions (English & Spanish) & a black drawstring bag. Lots of fun, a great gift for the novice. Wessex Astrologer.

Comment: "John St. Clair" is the pen-name of John Ballantrae, who runs the Universe Bookstore in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. He is famous for his many photocopies of historic astrological texts, some of which I used to carry (and a few of which I now reprint myself).

As such, he is extremely well-read. Add that he's well-travelled (he's a Scot by birth), and then add a few bonus points for no longer being quite young, and you have the makings of one very good book. If you're brand new to astrology, this is not quite the place to start, but if you've got a bit of it down, this book is crammed with useful observations, tips, techniques & more. He often cites the books that inspired him, which serves as an introduction to the rest of the astrological universe.

EVOLUTIONARY ASTROLOGY, The Journey of the Soul Through States of Consciousness - Raymond Merriman, $25.00
Contents: A note about the book; Preface to the 2nd edition; Terminology;

Part 2: The nature of the incarnating soul: 6. The Imum Coeli; 7. The developed powers and abilities of the soul; 8. Angular midpoints - crises of the soul; 9. The evolutionary moon; 10. The karma of identity; 11. Somewhere in time; 12. Pre-natal eclipse paths - familiarity of location;

Part 3: The potential blossoming of the incarnating soul: 13. The midheaven; 14. The moon's nodes - a peculiar piece in the puzzle of destiny; 15. Age arcs - a time to reap what has been sown; 16. Power over the angles part 1 - crisis in consciousness; 17. Power over the angles part 2: - breaking through; 18. Transits of the moon's north node - the thread of destiny;

Part 4: Evolutionary phases of the collective: 19. Seasonal ingresses - shifts in collective consciousness; 20. Planetary pair cycles - breaking through the collective pattern; 21. The Capricorn climax; 22. The challenge. Epilogue - the trilogy of evolutionary astrology.

Comment: Merriman on astrology & metaphysics. The first edition of this book was written in 1973-4, with the moon's node passing through Capricorn, which seemed to favor writing this book. The revised second edition (the current one) was a product of 1991, when the moon's node was again in Capricorn. Merriman believes the years from 1988 to 1993 to have been the climax to several centuries. If he's right, it may take several more decades before all the many details become clear.

The stars offer a gift, the gift of self-discovery. The mythical past of astrology has pertinent psychological significance for the modern consciousness. In The Astrology Sourcebook, Shirley Soffer builds a bridge of understanding between ancient thinking & modern Jungian archetypes, leading to a deeper comprehension of our consious & unconsious selves.
