Ivy Goldstein-Jacobson was one of the great astrologers of the century. Entirely self-published (so far as we know), her method of publishing was to prepare a perfect typewritten master, reduce it in size, print on both sides & bind the result in a hard cover. She passed away in 1990 at the age of 97. Her friends have kept her memory & her books alive. We're pleased to present them to a new generation.

In the text of each chapter however we shall cite this writer's textbooks as reference if required by the student for the mathematics & rules, etc. which underlie the work in hand. When we know the principles involved we are equipped to better understand the scriptures we are reading. We should remember that a person's birth chart is his pattern & promise of what is to be. From that first moment they both move foreward together, so that we set up a progressed chart for each year & therein see how that promise is being fulfilled by the picture of his progress shown by the planets & cusps in the new places they have reached, because they are his scriptural representatives to be read. What we aim to do first is to delineate (read) the natal chart & thus weigh the native's qualifications, his good points & his shortcomings as well as his opportunities & whether he will take advantage of them or be blind to them. Beginners should know the keywords for the planets & aspects as well as the general terminology (p. 189) making delineation easier & more certain in every case. (pg. 1) On pgs. 158-9, she gives these guidelines for eclipses: If the eclipse is visible at the native's birth place AND within one degree of conjunct, square or opposed a planet or angle in the natal chart, it has permanent impact & should be entered into the wheel as a permanent point. If the eclipse is visible at the birth place and it is within one degree of conjunct or opposed a PROGRESSED planet, the eclipse has temporary impact as long as the progressed planet remains within a one degree orb of the eclipse point. Depending on the speed of the progressed planet, it could be a sensitive point for years or decades. If the eclipse is not visible at the place of birth but is conjunct, square or opposed some point in the natal chart, it functions as a strong lunation (ie, full moon) on that point. In the beginning our greatest concern was not for what was around us, but what was within us -- our reason for being. In those days, man walked & talked with God as the prophets did, the astrologers of the Old Testament who studied the stars in their courses so that Daniel answered Nebuchadnezzar correctly, Joseph answered the Pharoh, & Deborah led the army to victory, to remember only a few. Those forecasters ar long gone, but they showed us the wat and it is THE WAY OF ASTROLOGY (pg. 1) Each of The Ways shown in the table of contents (above) are extended sections in the book. In the natal section, in addition to unique notes on the planets & ascendant, are notes on retrogrades, besieged planets, intercepted planets, mutual reception, planets changing direction, planetary cycles & years, decanates, intercepted signs, aspects both zodiacal & mundane (by house), parallels of declination, progressed aspects, directions, direct & converse, and Wynn's #14 theory. In the Way of a Progressed chart, we have progressions, regressions, combining zodiacal & mundane, directing by age arcs, table of major arcs, and oblique ascendant in progressions. The Way of Horary is a brief overview of the basics, as derived from her famous book (see above). In the Way of an Electional Chart are casenotes on a weddding, and cesarians that might have saved the lives of three different children (elected birth). For elected birth, Ivy has a discussion of hylegiacal & anaretic points in the chart. Here is the Part of Peril: The ascendant plus the ruler of the 8th, minus Saturn. Ivy makes the pithy remark that those who have Capricorn on the 8th (myself) have their Part of Peril conjunct the ascendant itself (Ascendant plus Saturn, minus Saturn). In this case, when a malefic planet is square such an ascendant (Taurus/Gemini) the result is to be accident prone. In The Way of an Ingress Chart, extensive notes on the Libra Ingress of September 23, 1963, and the death of JFK two months later. A tour-de-force of ingress reading. In the Way of Forecasting, how to read transits, and delineations of progressed angles & planets. In the Way of Special Charts, will-power is denoted by squares to the ascendant, especially if both are in fixed signs, and even more if the afflicting planet is ruler of the 10th house. The section on moon & weight notes the relationship between weight and natal sun/moon phase, as modified by other aspects to the moon. Ivy suggests a good time for a diet is the two weeks from full moon to new: Loose weight as the moon wanes. If the progressed moon is also waning, the job is that much easier. The book concludes with a fascinating table of 36 year cyclic / annual rulers. From 1981-2016 we are in a Sun cycle. 2007 is ruled by Jupiter. 2008 will be ruled by Mars. Presidential Affairs is an in-depth look at Kennedy's assassination, which was evident from an examination of the Libra Ingress of September 1963, as studied the year before. The analysis pinpointed November 1963. It's followed by a look at the Carter presidency, using ingress & lunation charts. Simplified Uranian Astrology includes once-a-year ephemeris for the 8 Transneptunians, as well as nice basic definitions of the points themselves. Bailey's Prenatal Epoch. Among many interesting observations is that Mars, in the natural chart, rules both the incarnating 1st house, as well as the 8th, the house of death. Planetary rulers are given for each of the 9 prenatal charts: 1. Saturn. 2. Jupiter. 3. Mars. 4. Sun. 5. Venus. 6. Mercury. 7. Saturn. 8. Moon. 9. Mars. Ivy uses the example chart to show how prenatal afflictions ended a woman's life at age 33. Ivy also tells how to use the Johndro chart, not merely as a substitute for the natal, but as a means of rectifying it. Ivy gives an extensive set of rules for delineating the ruler of the ascendant. It is moreover true that a mutual reception gets us into & out of conditions & situations with ease. (pg. 89) As fine a definition of mutual reception as I have yet read. It is not based on the zodiac (ecliptic or Sun's path) but on the Celestial Equator where distance is measured in degrees that are arcs (part of a circle) called Arcs of Right Ascension. Aspects are formed here first & so take "primary" place & we calculate them by Primary Arcs, a fast process. The proceedure heretofore as given by Pearce, Simmonite, Sepharial, Wilson and others is so complicated in presentation as well as lacking in examples that this valuable branch of the science is nearly lost. To this writer's knowledge, only one school teaches it, which is a pity because our method of directing is so accurate in pinpointing event dates in life. We will not be satisfied with the 3-month leeway on either side of exactitude the other methods allow - it must be the exact year & month & nearly the day, and the work is both easy and a pleasure to learn. Goodman wrote in the modern style, Goldstein-Jacobson in the traditional style, with meter & rhymes. In the Introduction, Goldstein-Jacobson quotes Longfellow. Her own poetry is in similar style. Several poems are set in southern California. Her childish poems (neither better nor worse than any of the others) are set in Australia, where she was born.
