Comment: This book tells you how to use numbers to name your business for greatest success. In the opening chapters, what planets rule what numbers (friendly, unfriendly, neutral), what numbers represent what letters (9 is omitted, no explanation). In chapter 7 a new numbering system is offered. ABCDE is still 1-5, but F is 8, G is 3, H is 5, U-V-W are each 6, etc. Many changes, but no explanation. In chapter 8, it is suggested a business name begin with a hard consonant, T being best. The heart of the book, pgs. 78-160, are a detailed numerological examination of 77 different professions. These use the modified system given in chapter 7. Appropriate birth numbers for each profession are given, and numerological values are given for common words in such professions. For example, Agriculture. For this business, Venus, moon & Saturn should be strong in the native's chart. He should be born on certain days of the month. The name of the business should reduce to the number 6. The author gives the best combinations of numbers that add to 6 (15, 24, etc.) as a guide. He gives the numerological count for seven words commonly associated with an agricultural business. You then add your chosen words to his list ("Joe's" Agriculture) to achieve numerological balance. Books with "luck" and "lucky" in them always sounds as if they were written for hopeless fools, but I suspect sneering is misplaced. There is real value here. Ranjan, 160 pages.

Comment: This is a translation of the Jaimini Sutram, but unlike the various other English translations, this has commentary in English as well as Sanskrit, which means that to fully understand this book, you should at least be comfortable in Sanskrit. Among the slokas, presumably includes Jaimini's original Sanskrit slokas. Chintala Narasimhulu & Co., 334 pages.

Phalitha dasas Comment: The preface to this book, complete: Some astrologers hardly understand my book, Jaimini Sutramritam, a commentary both in Sanskrit & in English. Of course it is just hearsay, may or may not be true. However one finds intricacy in Jaimini school of thought, unless one goes thoroughly through the Sanskrit commentary & Vriddha karikas as well. I have prepared this book as such that the astrologer could grasp easily & correctly the aspects, argalas, arudhas, raja yogas, ayur dasas, phalitha dasas, etc. also because of charts illustrated where ever necesssary. Forsure this could be a guide to every aspirant to Jaimini predictivity. For more details & Dasas the reader would well refer my Jaimini Sutramritam published by Sagar Publications. To this, Sagar adds its own note, giving the birthday of the author as May 21, 1927. In this book there is no Sanskrit whatever. Judging by the treatment of the first few pages, the book is clear, simple & direct. Sagar, 83 pages.

	VEDIC NADI ASTROLOGY & CAREER - V. Raghuraman, $11.00 Contents: Preface to the second edition Preface to the first edition 1. Introduction 2. Intepreting charts 3. Transit results Comment: In the preface, the author says he has based his work on "housewise" analysis of the natal chart, which is, the tenth house, the lagna, and Saturn & the planets in aspect with it. He tends to group the signs by element, so planets aspecting Saturn would be those in its element. He cites B.V. Raman's How to Judge a Horoscope, as an excellent guide to "housewise" analysis, which it is. He also attempts to link the Vedas (dharma, artha, kama & moksha) to astrology: Fire signs are dharma, Earth are artha, Air are kama, and Water are moksha. The author gives several pages explaining how this concept reveals the underlying nature of these four elements. He then gives these guidelines for using the Vedas in chart analysis: a) Locate the signs which contain the maximum number of planets. Look at what kind of sign they are & thereby come to a broad conclusion as to what they thrust of the individual is going to be. b) Look at the position of Jupiter, the life force, and determine in a similar manner the thrust of the individual. Jupiter in a West direction sign points to the person having desires. c) Look at the position of Saturn to determine the work to be done which will ultimately determine his karma. d) Look at lagna, lagnadipathi & the Moon for the strength of the chart & the basic characteristics of the individual. (pgs. 42-43) The remainder of the book is given over to an analysis of some 52 charts. These are succinctly & clearly put. These also include dasa & bhukti, as well as transits, especially those of Saturn & Jupiter. From the Preface to the First Edition: In this book, I would endeavour to focus on a subject which is dear to us all - that is, profession. Our active life is always spent doing some activity. This activity is called profession or business or employment. In astrology, the term used is "karma" though this word has a wider meaning in Hindu philosophy. You can delineate a chart by referring to the tenth house or the house of karma. Alternatively, the position of the planet Saturn and its interaction with other planets will also be able to give you a fair idea of the profession. There are yet some others who have demonstrated that lagna and its lord has much to do with the type of profession. I have, in my limited study, found these principles working very well. If the principles are amalgamated properly, would would be able to get a good view of the subject as regards profession. However, since much has been written about the housewise analysis, I would be concentrating on trying to analyse profession from the point of view of the planet Saturn. I would like to state here that merely because one analyses things from the point of view of Saturn, it cannot be said that the Parasari principles are not valid. In fact, the basis of this approach is also intimately connected with the Parasari principles of astrology as would be evident to the readers as they peruse through the contents of this volume. I have in this book, tried to also introduce a new concept which links Vedic purusharthas to astrology. This I believe is the first time that this has been done. I confess that this thought came to me as a flash after reading the works of Paramacharya of Kanchi. Apart from this, in writing this book, I do not claim any originality of thought. I have drawn heavily from existing literature available in this regard and have tried to apply the same to the horoscopes that I have taken up for study. Given the limitations of my knowledge as compared to the vastness of the subject, it is quite likely that the discerning readers would be able to add more matters to this book or would be able to explain the chart better. For such readers, this book would best serve the purposes of being a tool in their study. I have purposely chosen mostly those charts that are of people who are living today and are in some profession or the other. This is only to show to the readers that the ancient subject of astrology is very much useful today. Some other charts have been chosen from articles written by other authors to illustrate our approach. I have myself witnessed some stunning nadi readings which have made me deeply interested in this subject. The Tajaka section covers the construction of annual, monthly & 60 hour charts & their interpretation. Mr. Rao lives near Boston, MA, he cites Sanjay Rath as his guru. Rao has written a free Vedic astrology program. He mentions it in his preface, but the URL given in the book is incorrect. To download, go to his home page. 	BHRIGU NANDI NADI - R.G. Rao, $20.00 Contents: Preface; 503 individual charts. Comment: The idea is that all possible natal charts can be reduced to a standard set, which can be delineated in advance & the proper chart produced on-demand when a client walks in. The ideal set of charts would number in the many thousands, but the author, like all humans, uses shortcuts to reduce the number. Without lagna nor Moon (two points lacking in the charts in this book), the number of charts are greatly reduced, as are the interpretative possibilities. Charts are generally organized by Saturn/Jupiter placements, but not always. Some charts get an extensive write-up, most get about half a page. Some of the delineations include specific details about past lives, which makes me suspect real people were used for the book. It is a useful exercise to puzzle out why Bhrigu (or, perhaps more precisely, the Bhrigu method) predicts what it does. Ranjan, 332 pages, hardcover.

	BRIGHU PRASHNA NADI - R.G. Rao, $9.00 Contents: Preface; How to refer to the Bhrigu Prashna Nadi; 107 individual predictions. Comment: Here is what it says on page 1: 1. The Bhrigu Prashna Nadi contains 107 predictions, each prediction commencing on a distinctive page, numbered from 107 to 1. 2. To find out, which of the above 107 predictions is applicable to a particular querent/consultor apply the following procedure: a) Note the year of birth of the native. b) Note the completed number of years of the native's age, as on the date of the query. c) Subtract the completed number of years of the native's age from 107. The remainder will indicate a distinctive number between 0 & 107. 3. Refer the prediction which is assigned to the above distinctive number. If I understand this correctly, a typical life can be read from this book, starting at birth with 107 & working down. But perhaps this book is to be kept a deep dark secret until that moment when a client asks the pandit what he should do with his life. Very well, I am now 54 years of age. Subtracting from 107 gives 53. For prediction 53, there are two possibilities (which is true of a number of entries). The first one starts, This person in question did not enjoy the cooperation from the side he believed, because the friends/relationships are all in the tricky & enimical places.... (pg. 96) The alternative starts, This person is questioning the Yoga of "DWI VIPRA" a combination by itself. At present, the difficulties are not much. All difficult periods are over just two years back. Anyhow, due to a kind of fear complexity [complex] and due to difficulties he is questioning now....(pg. 97) I didn't agree with either of these, but then, my situation at the moment does not make me wish for the services of the local pandit. I am nearly 55, so the 53rd prediction is nearly history for me. Perhaps if I had been desperate for advice over the past year, one of these predictions would have worked. Sagar, 159 pages.

Diagram of stars & their padas Comment: Kashyapa Hora is a system of planetary hours. Days/hours in Vedic have the same planetary rulers as days/hours in the western system. As rulers of hours/days, planets in Vedic have much the same meaning as they do in the western system. Look at this: HORA The planetary positions at the time of consultation of the natives is considered and assessment can be made regarding the question of the native. For example: In the native's birth chart if Sun and Jupiter are together in a particular sign, predictions can be given regarding the native's father to be a notable person and also having spiritual thoughts etc. But according to Hora, if these two planets are together in a sign on the day and at the time of a native's consultation and according to Hora, if it is a Jupiter's Hora, then we are considering regarding the native, the same combination can be assessed as political support and such achievements, and also there will be great cooperation from big personalities, notable persons. Therefore, we have to consider the difference between the causative effects of the birth chart and the time of Hora effects. The planetary effects of planets are very important for consideration, including Kala (time), Desha (such places accordingly), and the future. (pg. 5) On pg. 8 there is a list of possible combinations, Hora lord with other planets. Hora Sun + Moon, Hora Sun + Mercury, Hora Sun + Jupiter, etc. These relationships apply not only to conjunctions by sign/house, but also to aspects, to planets before & after, etc. There are rules for retrogrades. Unlike the western system of planetary hours, the Vedic system is not electional, but rather, a system of horary. With 80 example charts. Self-published, 196 pages.
